Chicago – This week, all eyes are on Chicago and its consignment shops. From established shops that are borderline historic to top labels to e-commerce, these three consignment shops have it all down to a tee. Let’s just say Oprah’s not the best thing to come out of Chicago. Keep reading to see which stores made our list!

WHO: Elliott Consignment

WHERE: There are two locations: 2465 N. Lincoln Avenue and 3015 N. Broadway.

WHAT: This family-owned business has been around since 1996 and after huge success from its first store in Lincoln Park, opened a second location in Lakeview in 2001. Both locations stock up on major labels such as Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Diane von Furstenberg, Louis Vuitton and Michael Kors. While the store has already slashed prices on designer labels, shoppers can put items on layaway and make paying for those Chanel flats even easier.

BEST LOCATION: Since Elliott Consignment has an eBay store, this shop has the best location hands down! The eBay store only stocks about 25 percent of the brick and mortar’s store merchandise, which always sells out, but shoppers can still browse through items without leaving the house. Considering it’s pretty hot outside, it’s a huge plus for us!

WHO: Selections

WHERE: 2152 N. Clybourn Avenue

WHAT: Since 1991 (!!), Selections has been consigning and dressing fabulous women in top designers – for nearly 75 percent less than retail. Goodies from labels such as Dolce & Gabbana, Bottega Veneta, Jimmy Choo, Gucci, and Manolo Blahnik are brought it and sold every day – no wonder the shop’s been in successful business for so long! The shop also partners with Bottomless Closet, a local consignment store that helps empower women in transition to self-sufficiency, and the Glass Slipper Project, an organization that collects and donates prom dresses to the area’s high school students.

BEST SOCIAL MEDIA: While other shops send out emails and e-newsletters, Selections one-ups everyone with Twitter. The staff posts new items often, such as gray Rock & Republic booties in a size eight, white Tod’s bag, and grey and ivory Jil Sander coat in size six. Follow the shop @ShopSelections and happy shopping, ‘Nistas!

WHO: A Secret Closet

WHERE: 4617 N. Lincoln Ave

WHAT: Carmen Alvarez-Mooses has been running this gem of a store since 2000 and has recently launched its new website. Shoppers can browse through the Chicago store for clothing, accessories, and even home goods. The store stocks designer and mass market labels such as Marc Jacobs, Brooks Brothers, and Banana Republic.

BEST NAME: “A Secret Closet” – does it get better? The name alone is enticing and the designer duds at discounted prices aren’t so bad either! It’s like having a super stylish and fab aunt who would let us try on high heels and lipstick when our mothers wouldn’t.
