It must be tough to be as cool as designer and Lady Gaga sycophant, Nicola Formichetti. Not only was his laughably flaccid attempt at erotica universally panned, but his lack of tact and compassion is shocking. Behold, this particular gem of brilliance from Formichetti’s latest interview with W, where he recounts his earlier days, styling shoots at Dazed & Confused.
One shoot, which involved dressing a rock band, was particularly unfortunate. “I was only used to dressing models and skinny kids,” he recalled. “And I turned up and it was, like, three fat guys. I just left. That was the last time I tried to work with fat people. I think one of them was Ali G‘s brother. It was so ghetto.”
I can imagine, Nicky. Ewww, fat people! Gross…and so are ghettos! Poor people are so unfashionable and worthy of our scorn!
Incidentally, according to Jezebel, the band Formichetti’s referencing in his quote is ZOHAR, a four-piece world music ensemble. It counts Erran Baron Cohen as a member.
Way to express yourself, Nicola. I thought prejudice was so five minutes ago, but you have proven otherwise. I wonder how appreciative you are about the prejudice you face regarding your homosexuality. Strange, that for such a visionary, you’ve been shortsighted and bigoted enough to deflect that discrimination onto others. I would say you should be ashamed of yourself, but given your behavior, I can’t imagine that you have the intellectual capacity to understand what that means.
UPDATE: July 6, 2011: Formichetti responds and the world blogosphere goes nuts. Read the latest update to this story here.

I can’t believe that people that are considered role-models, in this case for fashion designers, think this way. There is nothing wrong in being fat regarding aspect, the only wrong thing is that is unhealthy. We should be more considered, and Nicola Formichetti is an a.s for making comments like this.
